University of Maine | Maine Center Renovation

The renovation of the University of Maine System’s Maine Center in Portland’s Old Port transforms a historic five-story building into a dynamic hub for interdisciplinary graduate and professional education. Serving programs across business, law, policy, engineering, and computing, the Maine Center is designed to support collaboration, innovation, and Maine’s evolving workforce needs.

The 67,000-square-foot renovation modernizes the 1860 structure with upgraded building systems, enhanced interiors, and new circulation pathways. The ground floor features an improved entry experience, while upper levels provide a mix of open workspaces, private offices, meeting rooms, and specialized environments, including a business law clinic, Venture Studio, and the Collaboratory with a sky lounge overlooking Casco Bay.

Designed by Harriman and Goody Clancy, the project blends historic character with contemporary functionality and positions the Maine Center for future expansion and connectivity to the adjacent Maine Law School.
