The new 152,730-SF Margaret Chase Smith Community School in Skowhegan, Maine, is designed to serve 800 students from Pre-K through Grade 5 in a thoughtfully organized, student-centered environment. The $58 million facility is arranged in four wings, with two-story classroom spaces supported by dedicated areas for administration, music and arts, a multi-purpose gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium.
The school features a comprehensive Early Childhood program modeled after the nationally recognized Educare approach, delivered through a partnership between MSAD 54 and the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program. Purpose-built spaces support learners at every stage, including a dedicated infant/toddler childcare wing and a preschool wing for ages 3–5—each with secure, separate entrances and drop-off areas distinct from the main elementary school.
Designed to foster early learning, community connection, and long-term success, the Margaret Chase Smith Community School provides a modern, inclusive setting that supports students, families, and educators alike.
