Scholarships Presented to University of Southern Maine Students

At a student recognition ceremony held on October 21st at the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Landry/French Construction and the Maine Real Estate & Development Association (MEREDA) presented scholarships to students enrolled in the College of Science, Technology and Health.

As one of the major sponsors of MEREDA’s Fourth Annual Strikes for Scholars Bowl-A-Thon, Landry/French awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarships. Two $1,500 scholarships were presented to University of Southern Maine students Richard Bigega of Portland and Vitaly Popov of Windham. Two additional $1,500 scholarships were given to SMCC students Coleman Costello of South Portland and Gregory Vance of Portland.

“We were thrilled to participate in the MEREDA Annual Strikes for Scholars Bowl-A-Thon. There is such a tremendous need for a skilled workforce, and this is a great way to contribute to an effort that helps educate the next generation of skilled workers,” said President Denis Landry.

MEREDA raised a total of $18,000 from the annual event, funding scholarships for Maine students enrolled in the building trades, architecture, construction, engineering or business. In addition to USM and SMCC, two students from each of the other 6 Maine community colleges received scholarships.
