Baxter Academy Opens In New Location
Baxter Academy for Technology and Science celebrated the opening of the charter school’s new Portland location. Located at 185 Lancaster Street in Bayside, the new location allows Baxter Academy to consolidate its programming under one roof with the ability to grow to 400 students.
The two-story 1915 brick building, previously used for office space, was specifically outfitted for STEM learning. The renovated educational space includes a 3,000-SF fabrication lab, which is the heart of the learning space, and provides space for woodworking, metalworking and machining. Other specialized areas include a 3D printing lab, robotics lab and classroom, computer lab, music and art rooms, spray booth room, dark room, and 6 science labs. The space also houses 14 regular classrooms, several offices, and a new “great room” for school assemblies and exhibitions.
The 32,000-SF renovation also included minor exterior enhancements.
Baxter Academy is the first public charter school focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Landry/French served as Construction Manager on the project. The renovations were designed by Ryan Senatore Architecture.
